In ancient Greek mythology, Amphitrite (Am-fa-tri-tee) is the goddess of the sea and consort of Poseidon. She was described as "the third one who encircles the sea". She ruled over the Nereids and Tritons and was the caretaker of the ocean and all the creatures swimming in it.
